Dinner in the Highlands

Scotland or the Scottish Highlands hadn't really crossed my mind much until I started watching Outlander on TV. In case you haven't heard of it, it's basically a period drama wherein Claire Randall, the heroine of the show, travels from the 1940s back to the mid-18th century via some enchanted standing stones. Romance and drama ensue.

Anyway, the show was one of things that inspired me to include Scotland in our British Isles trip last year, and I'm so glad I did. It truly is a land of mystery and green-covered beauty. But that's a story for another travel blog.

Vintage Scottish Higland Postcards

The other thing it did was to put plaid and tartan back on my radar - something I forgot how much I loved. For my husband's 60th birthday I decided to plan a 'Vintage British Isles Picnic' party, and that required the correct place cards (I mean, I do make place cards -so place cards must be used!). The results of the indoor 'outing' are above and below.

Of course, you can't have a vintage picnic without a vintage-like plaid thermos.
